Ryanair Italy to Ireland flight makes emergency landing 200km away from destination after engine failure

A Ryanair aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing at Dublin Airport after experiencing engine trouble mid-flight.

The FR1746 service, en route from Milan Bergamo to Ireland West Airport Knock, declared an emergency whilst flying over Wales. Passengers reported feeling "strong vibrations" from the left engine, prompting the crew to divert the aircraft.

The flight, which had been bound for the west of Ireland, touched down safely in Dublin at approximately 6:20pm on Thursday. The Irish capital's airport lies some 210km east of the original destination.

A Ryanair spokeswoman said: "This flight from Milan to Knock diverted to Dublin due to a minor technical issue with the aircraft.

“The aircraft landed normally and was taken for inspection by engineers.”

A replacement flight then carried passengers from Dublin to Knock, a relatively short journey, at around 8.45pm.

The company was among those affected by the IT outage on Friday which led to widespread travel disruption to Britons looking to fly out.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by today’s Global 3rd party IT outage which was completely out of our control,” a statement read.

As of 9am on Saturday, the vast majority of flights from London airports appeared to be running as scheduled.

The misfortune in July follows Ryanair reporting its busiest ever month in June.
