Ryanair customer shares loophole which allows people to take 10kg carry-on bag

A Ryanair customer has shared details of a loophole that allows passengers to take a 10kg carry-on bag at a discount price. The money-saving hack works on the airline's app but does not appear to working on the website.

TikTok user Cloda Scanlon ( @orangeobviously ) explained the trick on the video-sharing social network to her followers, attracting praise. The budget airline is well known for adding extras onto the cost of flights, sometimes in confusing ways, it seems that passengers don't feel too guilty about taking advantage of the work-around.

Essentially, when booking a flight, passengers are offered fares under the names "value", "regular", "plus" and "flexi plus". The value fare is the cheapest but it only allows flyers to take a small bag to be stowed under the seat, Lincolnshire Live reports.

If you want to take a 10kg carry-on bag, it appears that the only option is the next fare up, which is "regular". However, Cloda Scanlon discovered that it is possible to select a value fare and then add a 10kg carry-on bag, plus priority boarding, for just £10. The £10 add-on is usually less than the cost of upgrading to a regular fare. In Cloda's case, it saved her around £50 on two return flights.

We tested the hack on a £48.99 one-way flight to Barcelona and using Cloda's trick saved us £12.85. Do you have any clever ways to save money when travelling? Let us know by emailing newsdesk@nottinghampost.com, or leave a comment down below.
