Ryanair customer's second-degree burns 'after cabin crew dropped hot pasta on legs'

A Ryanair customer claims she was left with second degree burns after a crew member 'dropped hot pasta on her mid flight'.

Brie Ortiz said she was left in agony with blisters across her thigh after the alleged incident on a flight from Marseille, France to London last Tuesday.

The 37-year-old retired US Air Force pilot said she was sitting in her seat on the plane, when a member of staff spilled the pasta over her while passing it across from the trolley, she claimed.

The hot food landed on Brie's upper leg, as well as spilling onto some of her belongings next to her.

Brie, originally from the US but who now lives in Suffolk, claimed she asked for medical assistance but that her appeal fell on deaf ears as the crew carried on serving food to other passengers.

Another passenger ended up stepping in to help Brie who was left in tears while walking through the airport without her trousers on due to the pain of the material rubbing against her burn.

Brie said: "While on my flight I was served food that spilled onto my leg and my belongings.

"It was so hot that I have a large second-degree burn in my leg.

"I had to receive medical care for it at a nearby hospital.

"After I was burned the flight attendants simply did not act with any empathy or concern.

"A customer in the seat next to me actually stepped in and helped me when they did not. I told the flight attendants several times that I was badly burned and needed something for it.

"Unfortunately it felt as if they were more concerned with finishing up meal service and then selling duty-free to bother with me. I was in so much pain at the time, I did not think to get anyone's names that were involved.

"I had to beg the flight attendants to look in their first aid bag because I was in so much pain. They continuously told me they had nothing to treat a burn. No ice, no cold soda cans, no cold water, nothing.

"I explained to another flight attendant that the burn was really bad and I needed something for it. I told her I was medically trained and would look through the first aid kit myself if I had to.

"She said she would look. It took them 45 minutes to an hour to even open their first aid kit. The original flight attendant then returned with a burn gel. I'm unsure why they did not immediately go into their first aid kit.

"It would have helped me so much. They really seemed to show a lack of empathy and care for me or my safety. They didn't offer me assistance off the plane or to the airport.

"I was in so much pain I could barely walk. I got more care from two airport workers at customs than I did the entire flight. I went to them because I was in tears and shaking by the point I got to customs.

"Ultimately I ended up humiliated and walking through the airport without my trousers because I couldn't tolerate them rubbing the burn and I had to apply the burn gel the customs ladies gave me every few mins."

Brie later posted images online showing blisters and burns across her thigh.

She wrote: "It spilled during serving between her and I exchanging items.

"I did not think to get her name at the time. I honestly was surprised how bad it was and was focused on trying to relieve the pain the whole flight.

"If it had fallen on my five-year-old and not me. It would have been so much worse. Thankfully my purse caught the bit that fell between us instead of getting her."

Ryanair told the Mirror: "A member of our Customer Services team will contact this customer directly regarding their claim."
