Low cost airline Ryanair has released a series of flights with some priced as low as £12.99 - with some return flights coming in at a surprising £25.98. Jetting off after Christmas could be an option even in a cost of living crisis.
With the artic blast and rising heating costs turning thoughts to warmer climes, a short break or holiday in the New Year may be on your agenda. While short-haul flights may not offer soaring temperatures, a change of scene to a sophisticated city like Milan or a beachside resort in Tenerife or Portugal may be on your radar. And, if you've got used to the cold and fancy a January trip to Krakow or Budapest, then these are also destinations with budget price flights available.
According to the Ryanair website, East Midlands to Krakow, flying out on Sunday, January 8, and returning on Friday, January 13, would set you back £19.99 for the outward journey and £21.49 on the return flight, a total price of £41.48 for travel. Alternatively, you could hop aboard a flight to Milan on Thursday, January 12, for £12.99 and return on Thursday, January 19, for the same airline ticket price. A total of £25.98 for a return flight.

Flying to Tenerife's south airport will cost you a bit more. If you fancied a week on the island starting from Monday, January 9, returning Monday, January 16, then you'd have to pay £25.24 outbound and £30.62 inbound - still not a bad price at £55.86 return.
We also found low-cost flights heading out to Faro in Portugal and Budapest. For instance, a Friday flight to Faro on Friday, January 6, and returning Friday, January 13, would cost a total of £34.98 (broken down as £14.99 out and £19.99 in). With Budapest coming in at the cheapest return journey currently spotted at £25.98 return, for those booking Tuesday, January 10, until Saturday, January 14 (both legs of the journey costing £12.99).
While we have focused on post-Christmas deals, Ryanair’s Dara Brady said there are some early-bird Easter and summer deals to be had too. Dara said: "With Easter and summer ’23 fast approaching, early-bird customers looking to bag themselves a recession busting bargain can now book our summer ’23 schedule on Ryanair.com. With an unbeatable selection of almost 2,500 routes to top European holiday destinations, make sure to book early to avail of the lowest fares and have some summer sunshine to look forward to with friends, family or that special someone when the dreary winter month are over.”
All the costing we have shown here are based on one adult ticket, flying from East Midlands Airport and carrying one small bag. Additional luggage will be charged more and those wishing to select their seating will incur an additional cost. However, if you fancy travelling light and don't mind where you sit on the plane you could be in line for a bargain. Prices correct at the time of writing on Tuesday, December 13.
