Ryanair calls on Minister for Transport to act against drone use in heated video

Ryanair's Michael O'Leary has criticised the Minister for Transport following last night's drone disruption at Dublin Airport.

Three flights were forced to divert on Thursday evening after a drone was detected in the airfield. Flights resumed at 6:59pm but passengers were left inconvenienced following the incident.

Ryanair uploaded a video on Twitter this evening featuring CEO Michael O'Leary. The airline boss apologised to passengers who had been affected by the disruption and urged them to write directly to Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan about the inconvenience.

He said: "Dublin Airport passengers are entitled to the same services they get at every other airport in Europe. Minister Ryan, it's time to stop talking and do something useful for Irish transport."

He also described Dublin as the most disrupted airport in Europe when it comes to illegal drones. The CEO said that this is the sixth drone closure the airline has faced in the past five weeks.

A daa spokesperson said: "Flight operations resumed at 6.59pm this evening after a confirmed drone sighting suspended operations at 6:27pm. Passengers were discommoded following the reckless and illegal activity of flying a drone within 5 kilometres of Dublin Airport."

Two flights diverted to Shannon, while an additional flight went to Belfast. An Garda Siochana were immediately notified after the drone was spotted in the vicinity.
