Ryan Thomas fears Lucy Mecklenburgh will give birth as he films The Games live shows

Nervous Ryan Thomas fears fiancée Lucy Mecklenburgh will go into labour while he is competing in The Games live shows.

The former Coronation Street star is taking part despite the couple's baby being due at any moment.

ITV 's brand show kicks off tonight - with famous faces being put through a real Olympic-style challenge.

Ryan seems to have already accepted the baby will arrive while he is filming - and joked that it's good news medics will be close at hand.

But he is hoping and praying their little girl holds on until the cameras stop rolling.

"I know that it’s imminent and that it’ll be happening any time soon, and I know it will be during the show," he said.

"But I’m keeping my fingers crossed that that’s not the case and we can get the job done.

"We’re not far from here to get to the hospital, so that’s good!"

Other contestants taking part include ex-Strictly pro and leading man Kevin Clifton, pop star Max George and song writer Chelcee Grimes.

Model and autism ambassador Christine McGuinness, Coronation Street actor Colson Smith, newsreader Lucrezia Millarini, musician and TV star Wes Nelson and Emmerdale actor Rebecca Sarker have also signed up.

The live shows will be fronted by telly fave Holly Willoughby and ex cricket ace Freddie Flintoff.

The six male and six female competitors will battle it out in the athletics arena, the swimming pool, gymnasium and velodrome. Each will put their sporting prowess to the test in events from the 100-meter sprint to diving, racking up points on the medals table.

But none with be as nervous as Ryan.

The actor and Lucy are already parents to one-year-old son Roman.

In an interview with Hello! Magazine in February, Lucy said they are so excited to add to their family.

"She is due in late spring – we can’t wait," the former TOWIE star said.

"I had an inkling that I was having a girl, but I was a bit more unsure than with Roman. With him I just knew – I don’t know why but even before we found out, I said: ‘I know, one hundred per cent, it’s a boy.’"

The Games airs nightly from today to Friday 13 May at 9.30pm on ITV.
