Ryan Sessegnon forced to pull out of England U21 squad as Tottenham man hit with injury blow

Tottenham winger Ryan Sessegnon has been forced to pull out of the England Under-21 squad due to injury.

Sessegnon enjoyed a fine end to the season at Spurs, impressing as a wing-back under Antonio Conte.

The youngster was duly called for England’s Under-21 side as they have four European Under-21 Championship qualifiers next month.

Sessegnon would have hoped to play a major role in that, but he has been forced to withdraw due to injury.

No replacement has been called up and it means Lee Carsley will have 23 players to choose from for the games against the Czech Republic, Albania, Kosovo and Slovenia.

Carsley has named a strong squad for the matches, with Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe back in the fold after not being picked for the seniors.

Fellow Gunners forward Folarin Balogun, who spent the second half of this season on loan at Middlesbrough, is in the squad too.
