Ryan Seacrest's kitchen features a copper backsplash, vertical storage, and stylish pottery for a refreshing twist on the rustic modern trend

Rustic modern has been the trend in everyone's homes this year. From Victoria Beckham to Pamela Anderson to Shea McGee, celebrities and interior designers have embraced the look for its stylish combination of warming elements and interesting shapes. Ryan Seacrest's kitchen gives the trending look a new lease on life.

The Wheel of Fortune host debuted his modern rustic kitchen idea in a recent Instagram post of his dinner of greens and fish. Rather than leaning into the earthy side with a few contemporary touches as most rustic modern looks do, Seacrest's space takes the opposite approach. The stainless steel stovetop and patinated copper backsplash give the space a distinctly contemporary feel, while the wooden countertops ground the space. Seacrest's wooden floating shelf provides a spot where the two styles come together. It's filled with a modern chrome teapot and brushed pottery.

'Kitchens continue to the room that leads the latest interior design trends, with other rooms following suit,' says Richard Davonport, kitchen expert at Davonport. He continues, 'For 2024, we aren’t seeing revolutionary trends, but rather more subtle ideas that bring both functionality and style in equal measure.' We see this in Seacreast's kitchen, in the union of the practical, large hobbed stove next to the stunning copper backsplash.

This innovative copper kitchen backsplash is one of the most striking elements of the space. Davonport states: ' For those who love a touch of glamour and shine, metallic splashbacks are in vogue. Copper, brass, and stainless steel are popular choices for creating a stunning focal point in the kitchen. These reflective surfaces catch the eye and bounce light around the room, making your kitchen feel more spacious and inviting. They work particularly well in smaller kitchens but look just as good in large spaces.'

The floating shelf is another enviable element of Ryan Seacrest's kitchen. Jennifer Ebert, digital editor at Homes & Gardens says, 'A floating shelf like this is a great way to save space in a kitchen. Though it's not usually possible to have cabinets above a stove, this floating shelf allows room to include an extractor fan while storing items in the space. It's also a wonderful decorative element. As seen here, it can be used to showcase vases or pots and pans stylishly.'

Shop the Rustic Modern Shelving Look

If you hope to recreate Seacrest's shelving in your own home, start with a rustic wood shelf. Next, add a rustic vase and a modern one for a grounded but elevated look.

If you are hoping to create a similar modern rustic look in your own home, start with some copper. If you're not ready to install an entire backsplash, begin with some copper pots and pans. These pieces are perfect for bringing a warm, rustic contrast into your home. When paired with natural wood either on the countertops or as a shelf, they make a very inviting statement.

With interior design trends, it's always worth thinking about how the look could be expanded, altered, or done more interestingly. Ryan Seacrest's kitchen sheds light on these possibilities.
