Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney sum up their attitude towards Wrexham at trophy parade

Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney put their commitment to the Welsh side on full display during their emotional promotion parade.

The Hollywood pair have masterminded a memorable promotion to the Football League throughout the campaign - ending the Welsh club’s 15-year exile in non-league. They have done it in style too with a record-breaking 111-point campaign.

Their stylish and entertaining approach on the pitch was also matched off of it as the club joined supporters in taking to the streets of Wrexham. The Vanarama National League trophy was on display as three buses cruised through the city and was surrounded by thousands of supporters.

It wasn’t just the men’s side that were celebrating their achievements throughout the afternoon. Wrexham’s women also won promotion this term by winning a play-off final to secure a place in the Genero Adran Premier.

The women’s squad were stationed among the second of three buses to soak up the acclaim of supporters and were joined by Reynolds and McElhenney, as they underlined their affection and commitment to all elements of the club and not just the men’s side. The pair also laid down their love of Welsh life as they joined in with an impromptu rendition of the national anthem.

Interestingly, the two have already laid down their intentions to make Wrexham a self-sufficient club away from their considerable investment. Speaking to S4C ahead of Tuesday’s parade, McElhenney said: "I don't think we're necessarily concerned with losing money as much as we are concerned with making the club sustainable, that was always our intent.

"It is interesting to see a lot of the media that has come out over our annual report from this past year because it is not taking into account so many different things. We don't respond to it because we know what the truth is, which is that the club is certainly on its way to becoming sustainable and that's what our goal is."

The procession continued along a route through the city centre, starting at the club’s Racecourse Ground. It then progressed past the iconic pub The Turf, going deeper into the city until eventually reaching the Town Hall.

Among the players on the first bus was former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster. He signed a short-term deal with the Dragons earlier this year, his vital penalty save against Notts County one of the highlights of the campaign. He is out of contract this month.

Wrexham fans displayed their affection for the veteran by chanting “one more year” towards him. He replied by lifting up two fingers, almost suggesting that he could be in line for an even longer stay at the Racecourse Ground.

Canadian star Reynolds has suggested that a plan is in place to get Foster to pen a new deal with the club but is leaving the squad planning to manager Phil Parkinson - the former Bradford boss also in amongst the celebrations.

Reynolds said: "We defer to Phil. We are actively talking about that right now. I know for a fact he feels as though we have a very strong side.

"No decision that we have made over the last two years hasn't kept the future in mind, so we never make a short-term decision. Any player that we have signed, we have signed to at least a three-year deal, except for one [Foster].

"He is the guy we are going to work on, but other than that, I think we have a very strong side. If Phil says we need somebody else, then we will do our best to go out and get them."

Amid Tuesday's celebrations, Wrexham also announced that they had organised a glitzy pre-season friendly with LA Galaxy II to go alongside games against Chelsea and Man Utd over in the US this summer.
