Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney has made a cheeky attempt to lure Gareth Bale out of retirement... but the National League champions already have their own Welsh wizard.
His name is Jordan Davies, a 24-year-old midfielder who's was compared to Bale when graduating from Wrexham's academy. Davies has impressed at National League level - winning numerous awards - and will be hoping to take League Two by storm next season.
Wrexham, who are also co-owned by Hollywood superstar Rob McElhenney, have won the National League title after picking up an astonishing 110 points with one game remaining. That has left Reynolds and fellow McElhenney planning for life in the fourth tier.
At the top of their transfer shortlist is Bale, who retired from professional football at the beginning of the year after captaining Wales at the World Cup in Qatar. The Tottenham and Real Madrid legend is regarded as one of the greatest players of his generation.
Reynolds and McElhenney believe that five-time Champions League winner Bale, who turns 34 in July, is still young enough for a last dance. Wrexham's co-chairs contacted Bale on Twitter after the Wales hero congratulated Wrexham on their promotion to League Two.
McElhenney replied: "Hey Gareth Bale, let's play golf, where I totally won't spend four hours trying to convince you to unretire for one last magical season."

Bale is known for his love of golf. Reynolds added: "I will shave a professional-grade golf course into Rob's back if you'll give Wrexham a season."
Although Bale would be a remarkable signing for Wrexham, Reynolds and McElhenney will be glad to have Davies already in their squad. The midfielder, who re-joined Wrexham in August 2020 after a spell with Brighton, has played a crucial role in the Welsh club's rise.
Davies has played more than 100 league games for Wrexham during the last three years and has claimed a host of awards. He was named as the club's Young Player of the Season in 2021 before claiming their Players' Player of the Season award 12 months later.
Davies was also named in the National League's Team of the Season in 2022 after producing a series of displays to leave Reynolds in awe. After Wrexham won promotion, Reynolds made his love for Davies clear on Instagram, writing: "[You're an] unbelievable player and an incredible person."
It's no surprise to see Davies flourishing at the Racecourse. Andy Legg, who coached the midfielder during a loan spell at Bangor City, once compared Davies to Bale. As quoted by North Wales Live, Legg said in 2016: "I think he is a massive prospect.
"I honestly believe he should be in the Football League already, he is good enough to play in the Football League now, maybe he just needs a lucky break... I can only see a bright future for the kid.
"He has got everything about him, dare I say it, he reminds me of a young Gareth Bale, the way he glides past people, goes past them with ease, he has got a terrific left foot, a great temperament and I can’t say anything bad against the lad."
It seems unlikely Reynolds and McElhenney will land Bale, but Wrexham's future is still bright... especially with players like Davies on their books.
