Ryan Jack absence rued by Celtic skipper Callum McGregor as he raves about Rangers enforcer

Celtic captain Callum McGregor says he and his teammates have to step up and fill Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack's void in the Scotland squad.

After putting his fitness concerns behind him at club level, the 30-year-old has picked up another knock that keeps him out of international contention in June.

Uncapped Allan Campbell comes in off the back of terrific form at Championship club Luton Town.

It's a huge week for Steve Clarke 's side as a victory over Ukraine on Wednesday could set up a World Cup play-off final with Wales next Sunday in a bid to reach that competition for the first time since 1998.

They'll need to do so without Jack, who has been capped 12 times for his country, which McGregor knows will be difficult.

But the midfielder - who captained Celtic to the Premiership title this season - believes opportunity now arises for others in the engine room.

McGregor said: "It's super disappointing. I'm sure he will be. Obviously, us in the squad want him here as well.

"He's a top player and he has loads of experience at international level as well.

"He's a big miss for us and he will be disappointed no doubt. But it opens up a door of opportunity for somebody else. That's what we have to do as a squad.

"We will deal with the injuries and everybody has to be ready to play their part."
