Hollywood star Ryan Gosling has praised Scots actor Ncuti Gatwa for his new role as Doctor Who.
The Scottish-Rwandan actor was announced as Jodie Whitaker's replacement for the new season of the BBC show. It comes after he shot to fame appearing on hit Netflix show Sex Education, where he plays fan-favourite teen Eric Effiong.
The Hollywood A-lister has made it no secret he's a major fan of his Barbie movie co-star and was even spotted sporting a Doctor Who t-shirt with Ncuti's face on it.
And during a recent appearance of The One show, The Notebook actor praised Gatwa for his new role, telling Roman Kemp: "Ncuti, I am such a big fan of Ncuti, he's the coolest! Him playing Doctor Who is the most exciting thing that's happening right now. So I'm here for it!"
Ncuti, 29, is currently working with Drive star Ryan on the highly anticipated Barbie movie alongside Margot Robbie, Will Ferrell, Emma Mackey, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon and Scots actress Sharon Rooney.
When Ryan sported the t-shirt on the Barbie set, Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies took to social media and threatened to 'sue' the actor.
Davies captioned the post: "This is, genuinely, Ryan Gosling wearing a t-shirt of Ncuti Gatwa as Doctor Who. We’re suing him, of course. Illegal merch #rulesarerules ".
Gatwa, on the other hand, was absolutely living for the moment and shared a photo of ‘King’ Ryan donning the T-shirt, "Dolls supporting Doctors," he wrote. "As if I couldn’t love him anymore."
On the Bafta red carpet, Gatwa opened up on the emotional process and shared his relief that he no longer had to keep Doctor Who a secret. "I woke up crying, and then I was dancing, but I’m glad it’s finally out and I don’t have to keep it a secret anymore, because I’m terrible,’ he said.
"There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling," he said of his new role. "A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared.
"This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care."
