After premiering The Fall Guy at SXSW on Tuesday, Ryan Gosling made a quick trip to Los Angeles for a special screening on Wednesday night. He was joined at The Grove by director David Leitch and co-stars Emily Blunt, Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham, and Stephanie Hsu, as they gave the crowd an early sneak peek of the film.
The project stars Gosling as a stuntman who left the business and is drawn back in when the lead of a movie (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson) that is directed by his ex (Blunt) goes missing. Gosling shared his admiration for stunt performers, stating, 'I was on a kid's action TV show called Young Hercules, and I've basically had a stunt double my whole life. There's this sort of accepted dynamic where they come on set, they do all the cool stuff, they risk everything, and then they disappear into the shadows and we all pretend as if they were never there.'
Gosling humorously declared, 'That ends today!' emphasizing the importance of recognizing the hard work of stunt performers. He highlighted the collaborative effort involved in creating the film, acknowledging the dedication and skill of the stunt team. Logan Holladay, a specific stuntman from the film, was honored with a Guinness World Record for performing the most cannon rolls in a car during a scene with Gosling.
Director David Leitch, a former stunt performer, expressed his personal connection to the movie, aiming to celebrate the unsung heroes behind the action sequences. He emphasized the risks stunt people take to deliver memorable moments on screen. Co-star Hannah Waddingham playfully mentioned her admiration for stunt work, joking that her own abilities were limited, ensuring the stunt community need not worry about her joining their ranks.
The Fall Guy, set to hit theaters on May 3, promises to showcase the thrilling world of stunts and action-packed sequences while shedding light on the vital role of stunt performers in the film industry.
