Hollywood star Ryan Gosling has come out in full support for Scottish actor Ncuti Gatwa ahead of his starring role in Doctor Who, as the American actor continues filming for Barbie.
Edinburgh-born Ncuti was announced earlier in the year as the newest incarnation of the famous time-lord, and is set to take over from the first ever female Doctor Who, Jodie Whittaker, after she departed the show in May, ScreenRant reports. This appointment will make Gatwa the first person of colour to lead the BBC series.

Ncuti Gatwa's first series as the Doctor will be overseen by the returning showrunner Russell T. Davies, who was very important in the series running between 2005 and 2010. Gatwa won't stop with Doctor Who, however, as he is currently filming alongside a star-studded cast for the new Barbie film.
The first live-action adaptation of the popular toy brand will feature the likes of Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Emma Mackey and Ncuti himself. While previous Doctors like David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi have come out in support for the new time-lord, his Barbie co-stars are also praising his newest appointment.

Hollywood star Ryan Gosling was spotted sporting a t-shirt of Gatwa as the Doctor in a fan-made adaptation, walking around on set with the supportive message on his chest. Ncuti shared the image on his social media, writing on Instagram: "Dolls supporting Doctors", and "As if I couldn't love him anymore."
It seems that it isn't just the whole of Scotland that is supporting Ncuti in his new role - famous fans from across the globe are also joining in. Ncuti will star in the new Barbie film as a version of Ken, set to be released in 2023.
Ncuti Gatwa's first season as the Doctor won't air until sometime between 2023 and 2024. However, Jodie Whittaker's latest series as the time-lord is available on BBC iPlayer.
