A swelling on his left wrist forced Ruturaj Gaikwad to miss four out of the six group matches in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. But he came back with a world record performance, hitting seven sixes in an over and an unbeaten 220 against Uttar Pradesh (in a team total of 330) in the quarterfinals in Ahmedabad on Monday. It swelled his credentials for a comeback into India's ODI and T20 teams.
Pune-based Ruturaj left the India team after the white-ball home series against South Africa. He joined his Maharashtra mates for the Mushtaq Ali T20 within hours and reached Mohali just before dawn and cracked 112 the same day against Services.
