A high-level Russian negotiating team is en route to Riyadh to brief Saudi officials ahead of talks with the United States aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. The team includes Russia's sovereign wealth fund chief, Kirill Dmitriev, who is now a key Russian negotiator. Dmitriev is scheduled to meet with the US delegation in Riyadh on Tuesday to discuss strengthening US-Russia ties and economic cooperation.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, in a call with reporters on Monday, neither confirmed nor denied Dmitriev's involvement in the discussions. The upcoming talks in Riyadh hold significant importance as they could potentially pave the way for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, which has been ongoing for several years.
