Russian Border Region Evacuating Children Amid Ukrainian Shelling

Aftermath of shelling in Belgorod Region

A Russian border region is taking steps to evacuate approximately 9,000 children from the area due to continuous shelling from the Ukrainian side. The governor of Russia's Belgorod border region, Vyacheslev Gladkov, announced that the children will be relocated further east, away from the Ukraine border.

This decision comes in response to escalating attacks by Kyiv's forces, which have been targeting locations beyond the established front line that has remained relatively unchanged for over two years of conflict.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently expressed the Kremlin's intention to establish a buffer zone to safeguard border regions from long-range Ukrainian strikes and cross-border raids. Ukraine has been increasingly utilizing its long-range firepower to target oil refineries and depots deep inside Russia, as well as to create unrest in Russian border areas, placing political pressure on Putin.

Recent attacks from Ukraine on the Belgorod region resulted in casualties, including three individuals wounded in a shelling incident. Among the injured was a 14-year-old who underwent an amputation procedure, while his mother sustained serious injuries in the same attack.

Tragically, a separate assault on the village of Nikolskoe in Belgorod claimed the lives of four family members, including a grandmother, a mother, her partner, and their 17-year-old son, after a missile struck their residence.

Both sides have made claims regarding battlefield activities, although independent verification has not been possible.

Additionally, the Russian defense ministry reported the downing of two Ukrainian drones over Belgorod and another over the neighboring Voronezh region. Details regarding any resulting damage or injuries were not provided.

Meanwhile, Russia launched S-300 missile attacks on the city of Selydove in the eastern Donetsk region of Ukraine, causing injuries to four individuals and damaging houses and vehicles, as confirmed by the regional prosecutor's office.

Earlier incidents in Donetsk resulted in casualties, with one person killed and another wounded in Russian attacks, according to regional governor Vadym Filashkin.
