Russia vows to intensify strikes on Kyiv after huge Ukrainian attack during election

  • The Kremlin has pledged to intensify military strikes on Kyiv following accusations that Ukraine launched a massive barrage of over 1,100 drones across Russia, Crimea, and the Black Sea to disrupt the Russian parliamentary election.
  • Vladimir Putin's United Russia party secured an early lead with 57.5 per cent of the vote in an election described by critics as lacking genuine dissent, after independent European observers were barred and opposition candidates banned.
  • Russia targeted ten Ukrainian regions in overnight attacks, causing significant damage to residential buildings, utility facilities, and infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia and killing four people, including three children, in the Kyiv region.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Moscow is preparing to escalate the conflict further, whilst confirming he is set to meet US President Donald Trump in New York for talks aimed at advancing a diplomatic resolution.
  • Ukrainian frontline conditions have worsened dramatically according to combat veterans, who report that constant surveillance and attacks from swarms of armed drones are forcing soldiers to remain trapped in foxholes and bunkers.
