The US has accused Russia of committing a “war crime” following the attack on a nuclear power plant.
After a fire sparked at the Zaporizhzhia power plant, the US embassy in Kyiv said Vladimir Putin has taken his reign of “terror one step further”.
The embassy said: “It is a war crime to attack a nuclear power plant. Putin's shelling of Europe's largest nuclear plant takes his reign of terror one step further.”
President Volodymyr Zelensky also claimed Ukraine had survived destruction equal to “six Chernobyls” following the assault on the nuclear plant over night.
Russian forces seized the largest nuclear power plant in Europe after a building at the complex was set ablaze during intense fighting with Ukrainian defenders, Ukrainian authorities said on Friday.
It comes as Nato foreign ministers, alongside those from Finland and Sweden, meet in Brussels for an emergency meeting.
