Russian missiles have struck a TV tower in central Kyiv as local residents were urged by the Kremlin to leave their homes immediately.
The Russian defence ministry said the strikes aimed to prevent “information attacks” on Russia, with pictures showing a huge plume of smoke in the centre of the city.
Ukrainian TV channels were disrupted and Ukraine’s Interior Ministry adviser Anton Herashchenko said work would be done to restore any lost signal.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Igor Konashenkov called on residents living in Kyiv to “leave their homes” in anticipation of further strikes on Tuesday evening.
A huge convoy of Russian armoured vehicles continues to advance on the city.
