Russia launches deadly strikes on Kyiv ahead of Zelensky’s UN speech

  • Russia launched a heavy drone attack on Kyiv on Wednesday, killing at least two people and injuring 22 while hitting railway infrastructure, warehouses and fuel stations.
  • The strikes occurred as Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky prepared to address the UN General Assembly following talks with US president Donald Trump .
  • Zelensky revealed he asked Trump for a winter package of new military equipment and expressed hope for a bilateral ceasefire regarding energy infrastructure.
  • Zelensky stated he is prepared to participate in a trilateral meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin and Trump.
  • Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov signalled that there are currently no prerequisites for peaceful negotiations, despite Russia remaining open to talks.
