Russia has accused Ukrainian forces of killing the daughter of Alexander Dugin, one of Putin’s closest allies.
Darya Dugina, a journalist who supported Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was killed in a suspected car bomb near the city of Moscow on Saturday.
The car bomb is thought to be intended for her father, who has been sanctioned by the US since 2015 for his alleged involvement in Russia's annexation of Crimea.
Denis Pushilin, the head of the Donetsk People's Republic – a pro-Kremlin separatist region in eastern Ukraine, said on Telegram: "The terrorists of the Ukrainian regime, trying to eliminate Alexander Dugin, blew up his daughter... In a car. Blessed memory of Daria, she is a real Russian girl."
A statement released on Telegram by Konstantin Malofeev, a friend of Dugin’s, stated that Mr Dugin asked him to publish a statement on his behalf which thanked those who expressed their condolences.
Dugin, who described his daughter as a “beautiful Orthodox girl, a patriot,” and “a military correspondent” said that his daughter was brutally killed by an explosion in front of his eyes.
Dugin referred to the perpetrators of the attack as “the Nazi Ukrainian regime.”
Darya Dugina’s funeral is to take place tomorrow. In his statement, Dugina’s father called for a Russian victory saying: "We only need our victory. My daughter sacrificed her young woman's life to its altar. So please, achieve it!"
Despite Ukrainian officials denying any involvement in the killing, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said that it had solved the case today and held Ukraine directly responsible.
The FSB accused a Ukrainian mother of carrying out the attack, telling Russian media that she had been living with her daughter in the same apartment building as Dugina since July.
The woman then escaped to Estonia after carrying out the attack, according to the FSB.
