Russell Wilson told his Denver Broncos performances have been 'unacceptable' after sinking to new low

The Denver Broncos sunk to a new low during the NFL's Christmas weekend games with an embarrassing loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

The loss lead to the firing of Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett after being in charge less than a year following his departure from the Green Bay Packers, where he served as their offensive coordinator.

But what will be most worrying for the franchise, is the play of their quarterback, Russell Wilson. The Broncos gave up a huge haul of draft picks to the Seattle Seahawks to acquire Wilson, essentially sacrificing their ability to make moves in the future in the hopes that Wilson would elevate their team.

Not only that, the Broncos rewarded him with a huge extension, making him the second-highest paid player in the league whilst cementing his spot as the starting quarterback until 2026.

But not only has Wilson not been able to be the answer that Denver has been searching for at quarterback, but he has been a detriment to the team with his play this season, falling off a staggering amount from his play with the Seahawks in recent years.

Wilson has thrown just 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions this season, with receivers looking visibly angry with his decision-making and errand throws, and it all came to a head this past weekend when they were defeated 51-14 to the Los Angeles Rams.

Speaking on FOX Sports Undisputed, Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe tore into Wilson after the loss.

Bayless said: "This is just flat out unacceptable. This franchise is too important to that region for this to be happening because this is the all-time embarrassment."

Meanwhile, Sharpe said: "They tried to let Russ cook and he burned the meal, again. Russ better got on his grind, he needs to show that this has been a blip and not a trend. This is bad, Russell looks lost. Russ looks so bad, he has teammates who want to fight each other."

The Broncos were expected to be a championship contender this season, but now have the third worst record in the NFL, and will reap no benefits of having a poor record as they will be giving their first and second round draft picks to the Seahawks for the Wilson trade.

The Broncos are now to stick with an interim head coach before making a new hiring in the off-season.
