It was a rough Pittsburgh Steelers debut for quarterback Russell Wilson. After missing the team’s first preseason game, Wilson played four drives, almost all of the first half against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.
To be honest, it was ugly. Wilson threw for only 47 yards on four drives on 8-for-10 passing. The team failed to score any points with Wilson under center and the offense looked dreadful.
But when we talk about a beating, we mean the sacks. Wilson got sacked once in each of his first three drives. Two of those sacks came courtesy of poor blocking by offensive tackle Broderick Jones. The other was a block assignment by guard James Daniels.
The Steelers defense kept the Bills honest through the first half, only allowing three points. But this isn’t sustainable into the regular season so the offense needs to find a way to get things going. Justin Fields came in to replace Wilson.
