Russell Watson and Aled Jones joined on stage by Ayrshire rock choir

Members of an Ayrshire choir performed the gig of a lifetime as they joined music royalty on the big stage.

Members of the Rock Choir for Irvine, Ayr Kilmarnock and Troon supported fellow singers from Glasgow – as they provided a powerful backing to classical music giants Russell Watson and Aled Jones.

The choir backed the stars for a unique Christmas tour which saw iconic tracks mastered by the duo at a special festive show at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall last week.

The choir known as the Rockies were invited up to join Russell, the UK’s best selling classical artist and Welsh singing sensation Aled on stage as special guests on their ‘Christmas with Russell and Aled’ Tour.

Rock Choir Leader Lauren McGarrigle told of her delight following the show.

Lauren said: “It was a magical night, we were delighted to get the call from Russell and Aled to invite us on their tour and we were proud to be able to take to the stage with them.

“It was an unforgettable experience and a memory our Rock Choir Members will cherish forever.”

Lauren later took to Facebook to pay tribute to her “amazing Rockies.”

A post by Lauren on the Rock Choir for Irvine, Ayr, Kilmarnock and Troon added: “You were so professional and sounded and looked amazing while performing to thousands of people, which is no easy feat!

“I’m so glad you loved every minute, I’m proud as punch!.”

Russell and Aled are back on the road touring the country after a three-year hiatus.

Their colossal UK tour which started last month reached Glasgow on Wednesday, December 7 – giving the Rock Choir their big chance to shine.

The harmonic pair met with the choir after the show and were presented with a bottle of Scottish whisky.

Lauren added: “Russel and Aled and their team were such lovely guys and so funny! I do think they were also very happy with their whisky.”
