A rush hour crash on the M8 has sparked traffic chaos this morning - with commuters facing lengthy queues on the motorway.
The three-car collision took place shortly after 7am on Junction 3 of the Eastbound carriageway near Livingston with emergency services including Police Scotland and Trauma Injury Severity Score (TRISS), racing to the scene to assist.
Traffic Scotland has issued several warnings over the past hour advising motorists that they face delays of up to 30 minutes due to the incident.
The carriageway has now been cleared but traffic remains heavy in the area, and drivers are being asked to approach with caution.
Photos taken on the busy road, which were shared on social media, show complete gridlock after the accident. Updated images still show congestion, but with traffic looking to have freed up substantially.
It is understood no one was seriously hurt or required hospital treatment as a result, but cops have confirmed that a male driver was issued with a fixed penalty notice.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.15am on Tuesday, 4 October, 2022, officers were called to a three-car crash on the M8 junction 3 near Livingston.
“There were no reports of any injuries and one male driver was issued with a fixed penalty notice.”
