Rupert Murdoch's 'brutal 11-word email that ended marriage' to fourth wife Jerry Hall

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch ended his marriage to Jerry Hall with an 11 word sentence in an email, it has been claimed. A pal reported that Hall was waiting to meet Murdoch at their home in Oxfordshire when she received the brutal message.

Addressing fourth wife, Murdoch allegedly wrote: “Jerry, sadly I've decided to call an end to our marriage." He is said to have added: “We have certainly had some good times, but I have much to do. My New York lawyer will be contacting yours immediately".

The divorce was reportedly initiated by the billionaire media mogul without any warning as the news spread of their shock split in June 2022. The end of the couple's six-year marriage marked the 92-year-old's fourth to be dissolved, the Mirror reports.

However, it was Hall's first marriage after previously being in a long-term relationship with Rolling Stones rocker Mick Jagger. Almost one year on from their unexpected divorce, the new claims have emerged about the brutal way in which Murdoch went about informing his wife that he wanted their marriage to end.

Friends of former supermodel Hall said she was 'blindsided' by the split, as the couple had 'never fought' and Murdoch's wife had stood by him and cared for him throughout several battles with illnesses. Despite this, it has been claimed that Hall was given just 30 days to move out of the couple's mansion in Bel Air, California.

Security guards are believed to have watched Hall pack her belongings at the couple's Los Angeles home as she was 'helped by her children' , the report in Vanity Fair claimed. The divorce was finalised in August last year after which Hall was stopped from giving story ideas to writers of Succession - a show which is loosely based on the Murdoch family.

Murdoch, who is worth £14.5 billion, has six children - but none with Hall. They include daughter Prudence MacLeod with his first wife Patricia Booker, daughter Elisabeth and sons Lachlan and James with his second spouse Anna Mann, and daughter Chloe and Grace, who he shares with his third wife Wendi Deng.

Murdoch and Hall, 65, wed in March 2016 in central London. The billionaire marked the occasion by announcing on Twitter he would stop posting on the platform, calling himself 'the luckiest and happiest man in the world'.

Last month, Murdoch shocked the showbiz world when he announced that he is engaged to be married, again, less than a year after he and Hall divorced. The billionaire and his soon-to-be wife met just seven months ago following the finalisation of his fourth marriage to model Hall.

Rupert, 92, opened up about the news admitting that he was quite nervous about getting down on one knee for the fifth time but had 'personally selected' the stunning ring. Melbourne-born Murdoch, who is estimated to be worth around $17 billion USD, decided on an Asscher-cut diamond solitaire ring for Ann Lesley Smith.

Speaking about their romance, he explained that he had 'dreaded falling in love' but was adamant this would be his 'last' relationship. Reflecting on the proposal and romance, he told the New York Post, the media mogul said: "I knew this would be my last, it better be, I'm happy."

He went on to add that he popped the question on St Patrick's Day in New York due to the fact he is 'one-fourth Irish'. Rupert and Ann Lesley met in September 2022 at his Moraga vineyard in California with the media man later phoning his new fiancee just two weeks later.

Lesley Ann, a former police chaplain, described their relationship with one another as 'a gift from God' before saying that they share the same beliefs as one another. It's believed that the couple will tie the knot later this summer in what will be his fifth ceremony and Lesley Ann's second.

Murdoch owns The Sun and The Times newspapers in the UK, Fox News and The Wall Street Journal in the States and papers in his native Australia. The Murdoch family's shares in the companies he founded reside in a managed trust.

The Mirror has reached out to Murdoch and Hall's representatives for comment on this story.
