Media mogul Rupert Murdoch has claimed he doesn’t watch Succession, the series inspired by him and his family. It features Brian Cox as sweary Logan Roy, head of a backstabbing clan.
In emails to a reporter from platform Semafor, Murdoch said he’d “never watched it”. Media writer Max Tani had asked if the News Corporation owner plans to watch the fourth series when it airs this month.
It’s not clear if Murdoch was being serious: also said Elon Musk was doing a “great” job running Twitter. “Tough task but he will get there” Murdoch wrote.
Murdoch’s younger son James said in an interview in 2019 that he didn’t watch Succession either.
From tonight’s @semafor media newsletter: Rupert Murdoch’s email address was in some of the Dominion filings. So I emailed with him. pic.twitter.com/vQGU9aaHJn

Succession showrunner Jessie Armstrong created his hit TV show after a screenplay he had written about Murdoch failed to get made. Armstrong has since said that the show is not entirely about the Murdochs, but it shares many similarities to the family.
Armstrong has said that the upcoming season of Succession will be its last.
