The fight between Youtuber cum boxer KSI and professional boxer Tommy Fury is now considered a professional boxing match in the United Kingdom.
KSI, whose real name is Olajide William Olatunji (1-0), will take on professional boxer Tommy Fury (9-0) in a six-round contest from the Manchester Arena, Manchester, on October 14th in a highly anticipated match at the intersection of sports and social media.
Professional fighter Tommy Fury (the brother of unified heavyweight champion Tyson Fury) is increasingly the unofficial gatekeeper of celebrity boxing.
Fury defeated Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia, on February 26th, 2023. That eight-round cruiserweight contest last year was a highlight of Saudi Arabia’s Diriyah Season 2022. The KSI vs. Fury match will be for the Misfits Boxing Cruiserweight title.
According to BoxRec, an archive of boxing records, the fight will no longer be an exhibition match. Instead, the war will be a professional under the rules of the Professional Boxing Association.
In the overwhelming majority of boxing matches in the United Kingdom, it is the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) that sanctions every contest.
The Professional Boxing Association (PBA) is a London-based organization. The organization ranks many fighters but does not currently recognize any world boxing champions in any weight class. The Professional Boxing Associated all of KSI’s previous bouts on Misfits Boxing and is known for its involvement in white-collar bouhts.
In March this year, the British Boxing Board of Control expressed unspecified “concerns” over Misfits Boxing banner. With speculation in the world of boxing being that KSI would apply for a regular boxing license in the United Kingdom. Misfits boxing has stressed the importance of safety in all of its events.
Brothers Kalle and Nisse Sauerland manage Misfits Boxing while DAZN broadcasts its fights. Fury has sought a match with KSI since 2019. That year, the YouTuber won his boxing debut by defeating fellow YouTuber Logan Paul via split decision in a much-hyped battle in Los Angeles.
Also on the undercard of October 14th event Filipino TikTok Star Salt Papi faces American YouTuber Slim Albaher for the vacant MFB middleweight title. Elsewhere American YouTuber Deen the Great and Iraqi Golden Gloves champion Walid Sharks will meet in the ring for a second time. Previously, Great defeated Sharks in X Series 003.
