Could Dan Carter be preparing for a return to rugby?
Former World player of the Year Dan Carter could be plotting a return to the rugby pitch after posting a cryptic message to his Instagram.
The 39-year-old wrote:: "I f you’ve already slipped off your new year resolutions, remember to set goals rather than expectations" along with a picture of him kicking a ball between the posts with his trademark left foot.
He last played for Kobeco Steelers in Japan, finishing his career in 2020, but with his latest message, could we be about to see a potential return for the World Cup-winning All Black?
While he might not have the physicality for the brutal French Top 14 or English Premiership at 39, there could be lucrative options in Japan or the USA, where Major League Rugby is a growing force.
Globetrotting Jamie Roberts set for another adventure
Former Wales centre Jamie Roberts is close to sealing a deal for a move to Australia to play for the Waratahs, according to the Daily Mail's Nik Simon.
The 35-year-old has most recently been playing in Newport having had stints at the Stormers in South Africa and Racing Metro in Paris during his illustrious career.
Roberts is said to be in advanced talks for a move to Sydney with a move likely before the end of the month, in preparation for when the Warathahs start their season.
The former Wales man gained 94 caps for his country in addition to two Lions tours and a medical degree from Cambridge University, where he played five games, including a defeat in 2015's varsity match.
Nathan Hughes back from the wilderness
Many rugby fans will have been surprised to see Nathan Hughes lining up to play for Hartpury against London Scottish in the Championship at the weekend.
The 30-year-old scored a try on his return to action which appears to have been enough for beleaguered Bath to take a gamble on the 20-cap England international.
The Somerset side have loaned the Number 8 as emergency cover until the end of the season, with Bristol retaining a recall option.
"Nathan's a destructive ball carrier and provides critical cover throughout the international window," said Bath head coach Neil Hatley.
