Rugby League legend Rob Burrow's devoted wife burst into tears after the terminally ill sportsman star told her to move on with someone else after he passes away. The ex-Leeds Rhino rugby star, 40, who was devastatingly diagnosed with motor neurone disease in December 2019 says his 'superhero' childhood sweetheart Lindsey is the reason he is still alive.
Lindsey, 39, who is a NHS physiotherapist said: "He always says: ‘Find someone else, you’re still young. There will never be anybody else. No one can ever take Rob’s place. It’s a cliché, isn’t it – love at first sight – but I think that’s true."
The determined dad-of-three is now unable to walk or talk but has managed to keep his light hearted spirit alive as the couple laugh and share banter through the keyboard communication he uses which is controlled by his eyes, the Mirror reports. Former Scotland rugby union player Doddie Weir, 52, and footballer Stephen Darby, 34, who also suffer from MND are fighting with Rob for the funds to enable more vital research to be done into the uncommon disease, which attacks the nerves found in the brain and spinal cord.
