Sinckler predicts worrying times
England star Kyle Sinckler has warned of 'worrying times ahead' as the financial pinch is felt in the Gallagher Premiership.
The Welsh regions have culled around 50 players this summer as they all trim their squads to deal with the financial issues that the Covid-19 pandemic exacerbated in Wales. But English rugby has also had to react and the salary cap in the Gallagher Premiership has been reduced.
This has led to clubs in that league also having to be far more selective when it comes to squad sizes.
Sinckler warned on Twitter that nearly 100 players were out of work.
"Nearly 100 Premiership rugby players will now be without a club for the 22/23 season.," he wrote. "Nothing to do with their rugby ability just finances. Worrying times ahead."
Former Dragons boss Bernard Jackman added: "This is the toughest transfer window I have ever seen in pro rugby. So many excellent players & great professionals will drop out of the game. Really reinforces how important it is players plan for live after rugby while playing."

Wales call up new prop
Wayne Pivac has turned to little-known Saracens prop Sam Wainwright to tour South Africa after losing Dragons tight-head Leon Brown.
Wales regular Brown arrived in camp with nerve damage in his shoulder and has been unable to convince medics that he'll be fit in time for one of the toughest front-five assignments in rugby.
Wainwright will now face one of the steepest learning curves of his career, even if he doesn't see any action. He has played just eight games for Saracens in the Premiership or Challenge Cup, with all appearances coming off the bench. Full story here.
Former England boss Lancaster pursued for Glasgow role
The SRU are targeting former England boss Stuart Lancaster to replace Danny Wilson as head coach of Glasgow Warriors.
That's according to a report in the Daily Mail following Wilson's sacking as head coach of the club. The move to dismiss the former Cardiff boss came after his side lost by 60 points to Leinster in the URC quarter-finals over the weekend.
However, in the eyes of some, including former Scotland stalwart John Barclay, it was viewed as harsh in light of the fact Glasgow had finished third in the league and reached the knockout stages of the Challenge Cup.
Nonetheless, the Mail report the SRU are now pursuing Lancaster, who is currently a senior coach at Leinster, where he works under Leo Cullen.
It would be a significant coup if the Scots could pull it of, with Lancaster reviving his career over in Dublin after leading England to disaster at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
Lancaster could be swayed, though, by the allure of a return to a head coaching role.
Ireland suffer injury blow ahead of New Zealand tour
Connacht fly-half Jack Carty will not be available for Ireland's tour to New Zealand this summer after undergoing wrist surgery.
The 29-year-old was involved in Andy Farrell's squad for the last Six Nations and came off the bench against France for his first outing since the 2019 World Cup in Japan.
The good news for Ireland is that they have so many options at No.10. Johnny Sexton will, of course, travel as captain with Joey Carbery also highly likely to be on the plane.
In that third choice option, though, there is a slew of players including Leinster's Ross Byrne, Ulster's Billy Burns and Munster's Ben Healy.
