RUDRAPUR: A 20-year-old man died after falling from the roof of a house in the Nayi Basti Khera colony of Rudrapur early on Tuesday morning. It is alleged that the youth had sneaked into the house adjacent to his rented accommodation in a bid to steal valuables.
The victim has been identified as Mohammad Islam, a native of Gujariya town in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh. Islam was allegedly attempting to rob his neighbour Rashid Ali's house.
Ambi Ram Arya, Rampura police outpost in-charge, said, “Islam panicked after Ali's wife woke up and started screaming for help. In a bid to escape, he fell from the rooftop and died on the spot.”
Meanwhile, circle officer (CO) Abhay Pratap Singh said the victim worked at a manufacturing unit in Pantnagar industrial estate. "Islam came to Rudrapur last year. He was a history-sheeter and had been booked under the Pocso Act and other cases of theft. Ali and his wife have also been called for interrogation. The body has been sent for postmortem. We are yet to register a case,” said CO Singh.
