Rude plane passenger who stood in aisle to block woman from moving branded 'childish'

A plane passenger has been slammed for blocking off a fellow travelling from exiting the aircraft.

The man was criticised for his entitled behaviour after he explained his situation on a popular thread on online forum website Reddit.

The traveller claims he was waiting to leave the plane after it landed, and had stood up in the middle of the aisle to be let off.

He said he felt a tap on his shoulder and a woman made a motion as if to go past him, to which he told her that everybody was waiting to get off the plane, and remained where he stood.

He then went on to explain that he let everyone in front of him out and defended his actions by saying he was running on little to no sleep.

Writing on Reddit, the anonymous user said: "Basically the plane landed. I was in about the middle of the plane and decided to stand up and wait for the deplaning to commence.

"Some people weren’t standing yet and I feel this tap on my shoulder. This lady stood there and kinda made this “I’m trying to go toward” type motion.

"I said “we’re all waiting to get off” and just ignored her. I then made it a point to let everyone in front of me ahead… so am I the a******?

"When we stopped at the gate to deplane most of the passengers were standing in line to get off. I stood up once I saw movement from the front.

"There were maybe four rows of still seated passengers between me and the back of the line. Even if I let her through she would have gone five feet and would have been forced to wait still.

"I agree, I was at least a little a******** because would it really have effected me if I let her through? No. but at the same time letting her skip me and all the other people still sitting would have saved her at most five minutes.

"I will say in my defense I was running on no sleep and was definitely in the role of grumpy old man. Not an excuse to be an a****** but to be honest, I’m still on the fence on if I was or not."

The comment thread filled up quickly, with many users calling out the man's rude and childish behaviour.

One Reddit user said: "When deplaning you are supposed to let those with short connecting flights get off first. You are not supposed to stand up until it is to your row to deplane. You are 100 per cent the a******.

"You also could have asked if there was a reason she needed to quickly get off the plane instead of a snarky comment and ignoring her."

Another wrote: "Some people are trying to make connecting flights and are scared they're gonna miss their flight. I always stay seated if I'm not in a rush and let others go first."

A third said: "So you blocked the way so anyone that had to get off quickly (connecting flights) weren't able to because you tried to play judge and jury.

"You're the a******. Stand up in your seat area, don't block others."

A fourth added: "You're not in charge of the aisle. She may have had a legitimate reason to jump the queue, but you wouldn't know because you blew her off."

And a fifth noted: "She may have had her reasons, but you cut her off. Unless you were in a connection flight yourself, a small gesture of helpfulness wouldn't have hurt.

"It's because of people like you that egotism and rudeness are the norm, and the idea of doing someone a favour makes you outraged."
