Ruben Neves gives forthright response to late Arsenal win amid previous celebrations dig

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves has admitted that his side did not deserve to win at the Emirates Stadium having seen Arsenal secure three points in dramatic circumstances.

The Black Country outfit took the lead in north London on Thursday, with Hwang-Hee Chan opening the scoring.

Nicolas Pepe netted an excellent equaliser before Wolves stopper Jose Sa deflected Alexandre Lacazette’s late effort into his own net in the closing moments.

After previously criticising the Gunners’ for their celebrations at Molineux only a fortnight ago, Neves gave his verdict on the clash in north London and was forthright in his opinion of Wolves’ display.

Speaking after the final whistle, the Portuguese midfielder said: "We didn't deserve to win to be honest.

"We had some good chances to score, but we didn't play well. They took us back all the game after going 1-0 up and we just defended.

"When you don't have the ball against these kind of teams you will suffer. We need to manage the ball better against these kinds of teams.

"This was an important game for us and for the league but this is the Premier League and everyone will drop points. We just want to go game-by-game.

"We will look at ourselves and do better."

The win of course will long be remembered from an Arsenal perspective for their post-match celebrations and it could also go down as a key night in the Gunners push for a Champions League spot.

After claiming three points, Mikel Arteta’s men now sit just one point behind Manchester United, who occupy the final top four place.

Meanwhile, it has also done considerable damage to Wolves’ hopes of securing a place at Europe’s top table as they now sit five points behind the Gunners, having played a game more.
