Ruben Neves believes Wolverhampton Wanderers have to improve defensively ahead of their Carabao Cup match with Leeds United on Wednesday. Wolves were defeated 3-2 by Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend and remain 19th in the Premier League after a poor start to the campaign.
The inability to score goals has been Wolves' biggest criticism so far this season having only found the net eight times in 14 matches in the league. However, they have also began to go in at the other end at an alarming rate, shipping three or more goals in three of their last four home games.
Changes could be afoot for both sides in the cup meeting this week, but Wolves will be looking to use the match as a chance to build some momentum for their league season. Speaking to wolves.co.uk after the defeat to Brighton, Neves says the side's defending was far 'too soft' and improvements must be made if they are to win matches.

“I think there are positives to take, but again we conceded too many goals at home. We conceded two goals when we were playing with the same number of players, because we were too soft again defending. First of all, easy passes inside of our box, second goal we let the cross go in too easily.
“I think we reacted well, we scored two goals, then in the second-half, one man less, really hard against a team like Brighton who want to have the ball all the game. I think we worked really hard, and maybe deserved a little bit more, because we created a few chances as well, playing with one man less, but we need to be better defensively.”
