Rubbish flying 'everywhere' as bins left in 'stinking' street for days

Neighbours have complained their streets now 'stink' as their uncollected bins line the street for days.

Sefton Council posted on Facebook on Tuesday, April 19, warning that green waste collection would be delayed in Churchtown, Crossens, Aintree and Lydiate. The disruptions have continued to spread throughout the borough and some households have now not had their rubbish removed for three weeks.

A spokesperson for Sefton Council said the delay had been caused by operational issues. Residents have voiced their opinions and on Twitter one man said: "Whole street of brown bins out for three days, battered in the wind and now rubbish everywhere. Resorting to putting recycling in our grey bins now."

Another said: "What’s going on with my bin collection? Our collection was due on Friday and still has not been collected and with the warm weather the street is stinking."

A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: “We are currently experiencing delays to bin collections across the borough due to operational issues. These delays affects grey, brown, and green bins. This also affects some areas that receive sack collections.

“Our crews are working through the missed collections and we would ask residents to please present their bin in its usual way and continue to present other bins as per their schedule. We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate residents' patience during these delays.”
