Lake Tahoe is known for its clear blue water, but an invasive species had taken hold beneath the surface. Asian clams had spread along parts of the shoreline, competing with native organisms and altering the lakebed. Instead of using chemicals, researchers from UC Davis and their partners covered the clams with thick rubber barriers and cut off their oxygen supply.
