RTE viewers divided after Tommy Tiernan asks 'rude' question about the careers of Fair City stars

RTE viewers were left divided after last night's Tommy Tiernan Show, as he sat down with Fair City stars Bryan Murray and Una Crawford O'Brien.

For the opening of the interview, Tommy asked the couple: "What went wrong in your careers that you ended up in Fair City?" The unique question cracked up some viewers at home, while others were less impressed.

However, Tommy quickly backtracked and added: "I have a genuine curiosity about working as a soap actor and what you let go of when you abandon the short contract gig, which might be stimulating because it's all different." However, the couple appeared to to take the comedian's question in stride, replying that there are other acting ventures available like starring in plays and musicals.

Crawford O'Brien said: "But you don't you see, because you can do the others in between. You can still do the plays, you can still do the musicals and you can still be part of the family of Fair City." Many people took flocked social media to voice their thoughts on the interview.

One viewer wrote on Twitter: "Straight in there Tommy," while another said: "Jesus you wouldn't want to be easily offended”.

Another said: "The funniest question I've heard asked on the #TommyTiernanShow." Some however, didn't see the funny side.

One person wrote: "Has Tommy Tiernan always been this rude or...?" Another wrote: “Normally a fan #tommytiernanshow. But Tommy Tiernan's opening line to Bryan Murray and Una Crawford O' Brien was a disgrace, putting them both down for working in a soap. I am really furious. I literally can't believe his snobbism, his ignorance”.
