RTE viewers were left wanting to give Imelda May a hug after she showed her vulnerable side in an emotional interview on the Tommy Tiernan show.
The Irish singer-songwriter and poet, 47, appeared as a guest on the show on Saturday night and appeared to be close to tears at some points of the interview.
Speaking to Tommy, Imelda opened up about feeling homesick for Ireland while living in London as well as the death of her beloved mother Madge last November, aged 94.
Imelda revealed that though she lives in England, she still feels drawn to home and feels her late mother’s presence in Ireland.
“My mam dying has pulled me back,” she said. “I feel her here. I don’t feel her anywhere else.”
“Maybe that’s a big part of it, you know,” she said as her voice cracked with emotion.
She went on to describe all the reasons she loves Ireland, saying: “I love this place. I love the ground. I love the people. I love the humour.
“The best bits that we have are brilliant. We have a lot of bad bits but I love the heart of us. I love the heart and soul of us and we wear it on our sleeves mostly.”
Her vulnerability struck a chord with people watching at home as they took to Twitter to express their thoughts on the interview.
One person wrote: “Imelda clearly has a vulnerable side, she is a very likeable person.”
Another said: “I worry that every time #imeldamay pauses she is going to burst into tears #TommyTiernanShow”
One woman added: "Anyone else feel like giving Imelda May a hug? She doesn't seem herself #TommyTiernanShow".
Meanwhile another concerned fan, wrote: “I love Imelda May, she looks very sad I hope she has people taking care of her #TommyTiernanShow”
