RTE star Dáithí O'Se shares secrets to keeping weight off after losing two stone

Dáithí O'Se has revealed the secrets to keeping his weight down after losing an impressive two stone last summer.

The RTE presenter said: “Keeping it off is the main thing. I had high cholesterol and I needed to do something about that.

He told RSVP: “I take Benecol (a yogurt drink) in the morning. I have changed up my portion size and I drink plenty of water during the day."

“I pee a lot, but it is good to be doing that as well.”

Daithi (46) is married to former Rose of Tralee contestant Rita Talty and they share a son Ogie (9). The family live in Galway.

Daithi has also credited regular exercise for keeping the weight off.

“I get out and about as much as I can. The mornings are lovely and bright now that it’s April.”

“Everyone in our house gets up at 7am, but my plan is to get up an hour earlier to do some walking before they get up.

“The food is the biggest thing for me.” he said.

“April is usually when I fall down. I start travelling from Cork and Galway every day and summer is on the horizon.

“I need to cop on and stay focussed,” the presenter continued.

“When I see these lovely pastries and fancy coffee in the service stations, I just have to walk away.”

The RTE star who co-hosts the Today Show with Maura Derrane and Sinead Kennedy always puts extra effort into looking his best for the Rose of Tralee.

Over the years, the Kerry presenter donned sauna suits and stuck to specific gym routines before presenting the Rose of Tralee. But last year he ditched alcohol for most of the summer, gave up junk food and drank more water as he slimmed down and lost weight.

"There are no gimmicks, no sauna suits, just proper eating, exercise and lots of water.

"To be honest, I should be doing it all year round. I did make an effort after 2019 but the whole pandemic changed things."

"I went teetotal, I had one or two drinks over the summer and that’s it."
