RTE's Joe Duffy was left blown away by some homeowners as they shared their clever energy saving hacks that could significantly reduce energy bills.
Discussing the cost of living crisis on air Joe asked his listeners to call in with any money saving tips they may have as people continue to struggle to make ends meet.
The first caller had some advice on how households could make one simple change when cooking their dinner each evening.

He said: "Just something very simple. When you boil potatoes, and you turn the gas cooker on well, it saves a lot of energy if you actually boil a kettle of water and put your six or seven potatoes into the pot. Throw the boiling water into the potatoes. Put on your gas, let it come to a boil for about 5 minutes.
"Leave it there. Half an hour later, the potatoes are done, and it actually works Joe… and it prevents you from leaving the gas on for 20 minutes, half an hour, steaming up the whole house."
The man said the trick works just as well for carrots and turnips and said after sharing her energy saving tip with friends, he had evolved it even further.
He said: "Since then, I actually found out something else Joe, another person says to me when he tried it, instead of putting a lid on the potatoes he put the steamer and a half an hour later the whole lot is done."
The caller said he hopes his tip could help others to reduce their energy consumption and hopefully reduce the possibility of energy blackouts over the winter.
He said: "We don't want blackouts in the winter, and if the energy goes the way it's going, that is definitely a saver because it's gas.
"The chefs can do it in restaurants. They can do it in kitchens in hotels. I worked in hotels for years Joe and I seen the gas burners going morning, noon and night, and it can be a knock-on effect."
Another woman also got in touch with the show to offer up a hack her mother used to use when she was a child.
She said: "My dad every morning had a soft boiled egg for his breakfast, and he didn't believe in porridge. He always said that was a false filler.
"So anyway, he would have his soft boiled egg. My mam would make the tea and then when… she'd made the tea, she would put the egg, the uncooked egg, into the kettle and cook his egg."
