RTE presenter Caitriona Perry pays tribute to 'beautiful' friend Keelin Shanley on anniversary of her death

RTE news anchor Caitriona Perry has posted an emotional tribute to her close friend and work colleague Keelin Shanley on the two-year anniversary of her death.

Caitriona and Keelin worked together at RTE for many years and co-anchored the Six One News before she became ill with cancer.

The popular broadcaster, from Monkstown, sadly passed away in February 2020 at the age of 51.

In a message posted on Instagram, Caitriona described Keelin as a “beautiful woman”.

She wrote: "Thinking especially of this beautiful woman today. Two years gone but always on our minds and in our hearts.

She is survived by her husband Conor and their two children, Lucy and Ben.

The RTE presenter was first diagnosed with the disease in 2011, when her children were just two and four, and continued to work while receiving chemotherapy and treatment.

Caitriona previously opened up about her treasured friendship with Keelin, explaining that they had been pals for years but really 'clicked' when they started working as news anchors.

"We would have been in contact every single day, whether by phone, text or WhatsApp. We'd known each other as long as we were working in RTE and then we started working on the Six One together," she told the Irish Independent.

In November 2021, a powerful documentary about the much-loved presenter aired on RTE.

Her husband Conor Ferguson co-directed the film which featured some truly emotional recordings of Keelin just days before she died.

Keelin had over 20 years of experience as a journalist and broadcaster and helmed a number of programmes for the national broadcaster.
