RTE Late Late Show viewers slam in-studio judges as being 'way off the mark' as representative for Eurovision 2022 announced

RTE's Late Late Show Eurovision special viewers have slammed the in-studio judges as being' way off the mark'.

Friday night's show ended with Brooke Scullion and her song 'That's Rich' being announced as Ireland 2022 representative in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Brooke rose to fame as a finalist of The Voice UK in 2020, as she wowed the judges and viewers with her performances on the show, duetting with Ella Eyre and mentored by Grammy award-winning coach and singer Meghan Trainor.

However, the in-studio judges were left less than impressed with Brooke's performance as they awarded her four points out of the possible twelve.

Despite this, Brooke claimed the top prize and will be heading to Italy to represent Ireland later this year as the international jury and the public gave her the highest possible mark of 12 points.

People took to Twitter to express their delight at Brookes winning performance and criticised the judges as being 'out of touch'.

One person said: "Jaysus the studio panel were WAYYYYYYYYY off the mark...."

While a second said: "They gave her the second lowest score then congratulate her".

And a third commented: "Yep, good on her... obvious one, but the jury?!?"

Although the judges may have given Brooke a low score, the public and the international jury thoroughly enjoyed her performance and will look forward to seeing Brooke live on stage later this year.

Speaking about her song That's Rich, Brooke told RTE: "I was reading Debbie Harry's autobiography and wanted to encapsulate the attitude she portrayed in her life."

The Derry singer added: "It's surreal to think I could be representing my country in the competition, it would be an honour. Given Ireland's history with a fellow Derry girl like Dana who has done it before, I'm excited to be flying the flag and hope to do everybody proud! I also think in recent years I've been so impressed with the music Eurovision has produced, so am excited to be in the company of the likes of Maneskin and Loreen who are iconic!"
