RTE DIY SOS viewers left 'blubbering' as Baz Ashmawy helps build Klikenny property for MND sufferer

DIY SOS returned to our screens on Sunday night and it was a typically brilliant episode, with Baz Ashmawy and his crew helping a family build a new home after a motor neurone's diagnosis.

Johnny Aylward had been gifted a bit of land in Kilkenny by an elderly uncle - but in November 2020 he and his families' life was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with MND.

A couple of months after that, it was revealed he had a particularly strong strain.

Johnny and his wife Lynn have two young boys together, one of whom is on the autism spectrum, who Lynn cares for full-time.

So Baz and his army of volunteers and designers got to work on the land - giving themselves a mammoth task of a new-build in the space of nine days.

And it was absoultely spectacular to watch, with the emotional reaction of the Aylwards being mirrored by most of the viewers.

One man tweeted: "A blubbering mess. Shows like this are a tonic. There will always be good people around when others are going through horrible times

Another added: "One thing we can all take away from DIY SOS is how amazing some people really are when others are in a time of need

While a third said: "That’s it. My heart is broken and I’m in floods of tears. I’m 50 year old man and I’m in floods."

While others praised the host for his kindness and effort throughout the show, with one writing: "Baz Ashmawy hitting all the right notes tonight; genuine, sincere, kind

Another added: "DIYSOS is everything that is good in this world. Best wishes to them both. And Baz Ashmawy is the only man for the job. Well done everyone.

Even the host himself got in on the action!
