RTE 2FM host Doireann Garrihy says she would love to see her hit podcast turn into a TV chat show

2FM star Doireann Garrihy has said she fears her radio success can change “in a flash” – as she reveals she would love to put her hit podcast on telly.

The breakfast radio host is celebrating three years this month at the helm of 2FM Breakfast, which she co-hosts with Carl Mullan and Donncha O’Callaghan every morning.

But Doireann said she knows that her success can “change in a flash”, adding it’s always good to keep up work outside of her radio show.

Speaking at the announcement of the nominees for this year’s Platinum VIP Style Awards, Doireann said: “In this industry you are never safe really.

"There is always that fear there because it can change in a flash and that’s why I suppose I love to stay busy outside of 2FM and I think I would be stupid not to.

"I even said that to the two Johnnies to keep the podcast at the level it is at, not like they wouldn’t but I think it is important to keep all balls in the air, keep all passions going, that you’re not face planted if something goes wrong in radio.”

She said she’s always thinking about the show’s listenership ratings.

“It’s definitely on your mind but I’ve learned that it is ebbs and flows. It’s up and down. As long as you’re enjoying the job and doing the job to the best of your ability and trying to build the best possible team around you.

“If you’re doing all of that, I think that is all you can do.”

But the 29-year-old said the success of her Laughs of Your Life podcast has made her consider bringing it to a TV format or even hosting it live at Dublin’s 3Arena.

“Without a doubt. Big time. I think it is a format that can be brought anywhere, if I did want to bring it anywhere. My mam is constantly onto me saying ‘have you trademarked it’.

“I think it would lend itself to TV and it is very low budget. It is me, a guest and a small audience.

“I’m not pushing it yet, but I love having it as my own baby. My own thing in my own time.

“I never thought about what night it could be or what time it could be, but I do think it could be a successful TV show.

“I would love to do it live and I have been thinking about it recently and people have been DMing me recently asking me would it go live. I definitely think there is an appetite for it, so I’ve been thinking about it more seriously.”

Doireann is the host at this year’s Platinum VIP Style Awards on June 17 at the Marker Hotel in Dublin, where she has also been nominated in the Most Stylish Woman category.

Speaking at the launch of the Platinum VIP Style awards, Managing Director Onagh O’Driscoll said: “We are delighted to begin our partnership with the VIP Style Awards and bringing this glamorous event to life. The Platinum brand is all about delivering affordable luxury. It’s truly a highlight in Ireland’s fashion calendar, and we would like to wish all of those nominated the very best of luck.”

Managing Director of VIP Publishing Vicki Notaro said: “Still the brightest event on the social scene in Ireland after 19 years, we’re thrilled to partner with Platinum for the most glamorous night of the year after three years away due to the pandemic. What makes it even better is the fact that a public vote decides the winners, so it truly is a reflection of Ireland’s most popular, stylish people”.
