Fighters from the Rapid Support Forces carried out a brutal attack in east-central Sudan, resulting in the deaths of more than 120 individuals in a single town, as reported by a doctors group and the United Nations.

The Rapid Support Forces, known for their violent tactics, targeted the Sudanese military in retaliation for recent losses, escalating the ongoing conflict that has plagued the country for over a year and a half.

During the multi-day rampage between October 20-25, RSF fighters unleashed chaos in villages and towns in the province of Gezira, engaging in indiscriminate shootings, sexual assaults on women and girls, looting of properties, and displacing over 4,000 people in the city of Tambiuk and surrounding areas.

The International Organization for Migration's Tracking Matrix confirmed the displacement and highlighted the urgent need for international intervention to halt the escalating violence.

The United Nations condemned the heinous acts, drawing parallels to the atrocities committed during the Darfur genocide, emphasizing the disproportionate impact on women, children, and vulnerable populations.

The RSF, originally formed from Janjaweed militias under former President Omar al-Bashir, has a history of perpetrating mass killings and other atrocities. The recent attack in Gezira echoes past horrors, prompting calls for accountability and justice.

The Sudanese Doctors' Union reported at least 124 fatalities and 200 injuries in the town of Sariha, urging the U.N. Security Council to pressure the RSF to allow humanitarian access to affected areas.

The conflict in Sudan has claimed over 24,000 lives, with ongoing reports of war crimes and crimes against humanity, particularly in Darfur, where the RSF has intensified its brutal campaign.

The recent surge in violence comes amid military advances against the RSF, leading to retaliatory attacks on civilian populations perceived as loyal to defected commanders.

The international community faces mounting pressure to intervene and prevent further bloodshed, as millions of lives hang in the balance in war-torn Sudan.
