The Royals are off to another extremely slow start, as they are 6-21 in their first 27 games, just half a game better than the worst record in baseball. So, Kansas City has been susceptible to some lowlights on the season, and an extremely dubious one occurred Friday night.
With a man on third base, Twins outfielder Michael A. Taylor successfully executed the squeeze play, deftly bunting the ball in front of the plate and getting the run home. However, when basically the entire Royals infield came in to get the ball, nobody was covering first or second base. Taylor then took second base with ease.
The result was the shortest double Taylor ever will hit.
Michael A. Taylor RBI bunt double!

Royals left first base vacant while fielding the bunt -- and then they also left second base vacant, so Taylor just kept going. Super heads-up play, and... it goes into the books as a bunt double. pic.twitter.com/hGc4wLT1dI
The Twins won the game in Minnesota, 8-6, and the Royals suffered their 12th loss in 14 games. Kansas City has finished with a record under .500 for each of the past seven seasons, and despite a complete regime change, they do not look as if they will reverse their fortunes this year.
