Royal Welsh Young People's Village site saved with new music and camping arena announced

A new venue for young people will take place at this year's Royal Welsh Show. SV Arena promises to give young people somewhere "safe to stay and enjoy themselves", according to organisers.

It comes after it was decided in January that the Young People's Village was scrapped from the agricultural festival in Powys. Organised by the Wales Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs (Wales YFC), previous years had seen the venue attract more than 4,500 people from all over the UK.

But organisers said that the cost of living crisis had heavily impacted the fees for running the camping and entertainment zone that coincides with the show, and as a result, a decision was made to cancel it for 2023. Since then, it has been announced that SV Arena have taken on the land where YPV was previously held.

According to organisers, they are looking to bring the site "back to life" and to "fulfill its potential". The venue will have two separate caravan sites - one for young people and another for families. There will also be tent and camping areas at the site.

Organisers have also announced that they will be offering two stages with entertainment. Their daytime entertainment stage, SV Social, will be a satellite stage hosting live music and will also offer food and drink options and different stalls. Their night-time entertainment arena will see the return of the big-top arena, playing a host of live music throughout the evening, with some themed nights also planned.

SV Arena have also said that they will be working closely with the Royal Welsh Show, and are hoping to encourage people to visit the show ground and get more involved with the show itself throughout the day. Following the announcement, SV Arena said that they were glad to be running the event, especially following concerns that local authorities had over where young people would be going or staying during the show week.

Sam Mumford, the events manager of SV Arena Limited, said: "SV Arena are delighted to have acquired the land at Court Farm by kind permission of the Kinsey Family. SV arena will be a great venue for families and young people to stay over the course of the Royal Welsh Show week. They will be able to enjoy live entertainment and socialise in our SV Social area."

Aled Woosnam, the managing director, said: "Health & Safety is at the forefront of SV Arena's objectives, rigorous health and safety planning has been undertaken to ensure the venue is somewhere that young people and families can enjoy themselves in a safe environment. We are working closely with local authorities and the Royal Welsh Show to ensure all bases are covered."
