- Serving Royal Navy member Teddy Young, 24, has appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court accused of spying for a foreign power, which is understood to be Russia .
- Young was charged with two offences under the National Security Act relating to obtaining, copying, recording, or retaining protected information intended to benefit a foreign power between November 2024 and May 2025.
- The defendant was arrested at his home in Bedfordshire on Tuesday following an investigation led by Counter Terrorism Policing London in close coordination with the Ministry of Defence .
- District Judge Annabel Pilling remanded Young into custody, sending the case to the Old Bailey to be heard by Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb on 16 October due to the severity of the charges.
- Counter Terrorism Policing London confirmed that the arrest and charges against Young are not connected to the ongoing investigation into a suspected terror plot at RAF Fairford.
